Slow down turbo ... you're here all week! I know it's exciting and you want to nail your headstand, meditate like the buddha, achieve enlightenment and find the secret to world peace in 7 days but remember to check into your energy levels during the week ;) Remember you're here to renew, revitalise and reflect as well as to rock it. I often say, the most advanced practitioner is not the one in the front doing the handstands, it's the yogi who assesses where she is anew every time she steps on her mat and responds intuitively to nurture herself through yoga. If that means going half as deep in a yin class because you're sore or skipping a few chaturangas ... go for it ... there are no yoga police here....
Be honest ... are you getting in your own way? Do you find yourself making excuses for why you haven't got time to practice? Or do self-limiting beliefs stop you from trying something new for fear of failure? If this is you ... I'm totally with you. Even after years of practice it can be very difficult to silence the voice of self doubt but honestly, your mindset is the single most important factor in developing a beautiful, intuitive yoga practice. With a little bit of mindset training your practice will come on leaps and bounds ... I promise you. Here are some simple ideas to get into the mindset of yoga.
Be your own loudest cheerleader
Alright, time to big yourself up yogis! And before you tell me that's egotistic...
I finished my retreat in Goa literally two hours ago and now I'm zooming up to Denpasar airport dressed in harem pants and long sleeved shirt to spend 5 days in an Indian ashram. Our programme begins at 5.30am tomorrow morning. Hmmm.
I'm beginning to question which part of me thought this would be a 'relaxing' way to spend a few days after three months of full power teaching but here I am, armed with the only 'covered up' clothes I own and and armful of jumpers for those early morning meditations.
Fast forward a few hours and we arrive at midnight to be directed to an enormous hallway with rows of cubicle beds. As we tiptoe down by the light of a torch looking for an empty space my companion points out that it's lik...
Still falling over in crow pose after a year of practicing?
Getting frustrated because your heels aren't on the ground in downward facing dog?
Struggling to find the motivation to get to your 9am Saturday morning class?
Lucky if your meditation lasts over 5 minutes without you giving up and putting the kettle on?
I hear you!!
The question is ... why is the yoga practice so goddamn hard?
In a word ... because it's supposed to be!
With any type of learning we have to put ourselves in unfamiliar territory to gain new skills and understanding. That is the definition of learning. And that my friend usually requires some amount of discomfort because we are delving outside of our comfort zones. Yoga is no different. Just beca...
Ok, now you've gotten over the picture of the beautiful Adam Levine in his rockstar pose ... you're welcome ;), lets get down to it. You want this year to be awesome, right? A healthy dollop of planning and a sprinkle of soul searching, topped with a whole lot of action is the perfect recipe for a super yummy and satisfying 2018. So what are you waiting for? Grab a beautiful notebook and your favourite pen and lets get cooking.
1) Its all in the planning
The first step in any life overhaul is to first figure out what it is you want and second, to plan easy manageable steps towards your outcome. Take 20 minutes or so to sit in meditation and contemplate what you really want to manifest. Pick the three most...
"Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas."
- Calvin Coolidge
It's easy to get wrapped up (excuse the pun) in the commercialism of Christmas, but when we look beyond the buying of unnecessary presents, the stresses of preparing the perfect turkey dinner and the competition for the best dressed tree there are plenty of opportunities to return to the real spirit of Christmas. Here are a few ideas to reconnect to the spirit of community, family and giving this festive season... here's to a happy holistic holiday!

What is happiness? Modern society would have you believe it magically appears when we lose 10lbs, nail that promotion or marry a hot banker. Maybe you'll experience it when you finally slide into the seat of the convertible car you're coveting. Or maybe it happens when you can hold your headstand away from the wall.
When we attach our happiness to external sources, often projecting into the future, we miss the opportunity to experience happiness in the present moment. After all, we can never control what happens from here on out ... the only thing that is certain is this very moment. By living in th...
Yoga is different from conventional exercise and there are a host of reasons why eating before yoga is bad news … not least because you’ll spend quite a bit of time with your head below your belly … hello downward facing dog! So unless you want to regurgitate this mornings bagel you’ll want to make sure not to eat anything heavy 2-3 hours before practice. If you really need something, quickly digesting fruit is best. On a philosophical level this is the practice of sauca, one of the 5 niyamas (guidelines) of yoga practice ... to create the right environment for your asana practice to clean and purify body and mind.

'Hello, my name is Jenn and I'm an Instagram Yogi" ... pauses for reaction
Depending on where you stand, you're probably either grabbing your iPhone and doing a quick search for #thetravellingyogi or rolling your eyes, seconds away from pressing the little red 'x' at the top of your browser. Its a pretty hot topic nowadays and everybody seems to have an opinion - including me. So before you give up on me, let me take a minute to explain. Yes I post daily pictures on social media, AND I am also a full time yoga teacher and practitioner committed to bringing as many people onto their mats as possible.
“Yoga is the journey of the self
through the self
to the self”
- The Bhagavad Gita
What is yoga? It's a question I get asked A LOT along with the obligatory “how many times a week do you practice?” My answer to this question is that I try to practice yoga every second of every day. Now you can erase the mental image of me picking up groceries off the supermarket shelf in a warrior one stance… that's not what I’m talking about ;) I’m talking about YOGA and what it really means to be a practitioner. The physical postures we do on our yoga mat a...
